If I could give you one thing, it'd be this...
My wish for all mothers everywhere is more time
I've been thinking about how much time we have as mothers — for our families, our work, ourselves. Helping women find time and use it in ways that feel fulfilling is one of my favorite part of mom-life coaching.
My wish for all mothers everywhere — on Mother's Day and always — is more time.
More time to regulate your nervous system so overstimulation doesn’t come out as rage
More time between stimulus and response, that precious pause
More time to shift between your roles of mother and wife and worker and person, always grounded in your true self
More time so when the phone rings, you feel delighted, rather than intruded upon (And more trust that you can call that person who’s on your mind and not be an intrusion)
More time to sit and actually listen to your child delightfully share about Pokemon, and you could listen and soak up his enthusiasm, not because you care at all about Pokemon or even understand it, but you care about HIM, and you have plenty of time to get dinner on the table
More time to sit and be, hands wrapped around a warm mug, face pointed up at the sun, mind clear and quiet
More time to wake up slowly, stretching, breathing, feeling like yourself before the world needs you
More time to think your thoughts all the way through without interruption
More time to laugh, really laugh, because you have the capacity for play and connection
More time to stand in the doorway of your child’s room, watching them exist, just because you can
More time to sit side by side with your daughter, weaving friendship bracelets on her bedroom floor, while she updates you about the games and alliances and friendships and hardships of fourth-grade recess
More time to read a book that isn’t about parenting, productivity, or self-improvement
More time to let your mind wander, not just from task to task, but to dreams, ideas, and nothingness
More time to say yes — to fun, to rest, to yourself
My wish for all mothers everywhere — on Mother's Day and always — is more time.
